Cycling in the Big City......

Well here it is 2AM on Sunday morning....after going to bed at 2:15AM yesterday, I woke up at 7:40a.m., assigned the staff their responsibilities and got on the bike by 10:00 a.m. Had a really good ride today and could have probably ridden further had I not had to get back to prepare for the evening functions at the Inn.
I rode from the Inn through the posh Eastover community of Jackson and then along Lakeland Drive to the airport junction and back home via Fondren. Some hilly areas in Eastover were challenging and some of the side roads were not too smooth, but beyond that I had good cadence and gear changing going on. I try to keep to a five minute mile. Those of you training and racing regularly probably think that's real slow, but the Surly Long Haul Trucker weighs about three times the aluminum bikes which slows you down. It does help on the steep downward slopes though. Weather was a comortable 57 degrees but still had to wear arm and leg warmers. Completed 21.1 miles in 1 hr 47 minutes at 11.8 mph average. Elevation was 1027 ft and burned 615 calories. So far in 2 weeks I've completed 113 miles on the bike and 26 miles at the gym.
The next two weeks are going to be challenging as I'm traveling. Off to Olive Branch, MS today (Sunday) for a meeting with the Bed & Breakfast Ass. of Mississippi. May take the bike. More later.......
